Time 2 Change your discriminating language – Updated

Language *is* important. For anyone thinks who I am nit picking, (because I did wonder this myself) I am honestly just f*cking tired of seeing the same discriminating crap that makes me feel I’m inferior in some way and must be fixed.

So I call Bullshit.

This is a Facebook Post from 13th October, 2015:
Oh dear… turns out I was mistaken. We are *not* valued members of society until we do Time 2 Train‘s exercise program.

I wonder, do you get a gold certificate afterwards that says, “Welcome to society! You may now enter. You are enough.”

Or maybe they’ve just made a terrible mistake by using disgusting language that promotes Autistic people are not enough just as they are.

Feelin’ snarky today….
Over this Bullshit, it’s EVERYF*CKINGWHERE!!!

Time to Train Mission Statement

Text reads:

** MISSION STATEMENT **
“Time 2 Train strives through exercise to assist children, teenagers and adults with Asperger’s Syndrome and other learning difficulties, to build confidence, improve co-ordination, develop social and coping skills to enable them to become valued members of our society.”

I then sent a less snarky version of the above meme to Jeremy Samson, on his Facebook Page:

Time to Train Mission Statement No _2

Text reads:

Dear Jeremy Samson at Time 2 Train

As an Autistic person/supporter of Autistic people, I find the language in your Mission Statement that is found on your Website and Facebook Page, highly offensive and discriminating against Autistic people.

“Time 2 Train strives through exercise to assist children, teenagers and adults with Asperger’s Syndrome and other learning difficulties, to build confidence, improve co-ordination, develop social and coping skills to enable them to become valued members of our society.”

We already *are* valued members of society, we do not need fixing, so please update your Mission Statement immediately by choosing more appropriate words and stop the ignorance.

A few days later, Time 2 Train replied with this:

2015-10-15 Time 2 Train response

“The Time 2 Train mission statement uses language that majority of the community understands.
The Time 2 Train mission statement needs to be read in context.
Time 2 Train will continue it’s success in helping empower, increase growth, improve self-esteem, enhance value to people of all ages in the community living with Autism.”

So quite a number of Autistic people expressed their distaste with the words that were chosen by Time 2 Train, both on my page and on his Facebook page, yet Jeremy doesn’t even acknowledge, let alone apologise for this.

As a typical asshat does, he implies there is some incompetence on my behalf, using language as the “majority of the community understands” so it must just be me then?

Who is exactly is he referring to as “the majority” ?

Is the majority of people he has spoken to? The majority of his customers and colleges?
So a whole bunch of Autistic people saying this is disgusting doesn’t matter and it’s US with the problem. WE are not reading it correctly.

Well please fucking explain Jeremy, because I can’t see it any other way than you putting down people who are Autistic.

I’m really not sure why you’re talking about your success…. oh that’s right! You’re changing the subject! You almost had me there. I almost started to think that because you do so much work helping Autistic people to become worthy human beings, it was ok for you to use discriminating language on your website.

Sorry, it’s not. It doesn’t matter who you are, how many followers you have and how much money you make and whether or not anyone has said anything to you about this before. My Bullshit stamp knows no boundaries. And you sir, are not listening to the very people you claim to support.

That is Bullshit.

Stayed tuned, this ain’t over.

❤ The Bullshit Fairy x
